Abstract
We investigate the relative distribution of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in exons, putative regulatory sequences identified by phylogenetic footprinting, and surrounding non-functional DNA. Biases in the available SNP databases causes an overrepresentation of SNPs in the exons. On the other hand there is litte difference between putative regulatory and non-functional regions.
