We're excited to announce that the Herbstseminar Meeting is back for another year! We can't wait to see as many of you as possible.
You can register from the 12.08.2024 until 13.09.2024. As usual, you can expect a week full of exciting talks.
We'll aslo be holding a workshop on the topic: Visualizations using LaTeX and TikZ.
And of course, there'll be plenty of social activities too, with a few old and new offers during recreational time.
The Herbstseminar Meeting is organised by people from the Bioinformatics Group and from the Computational EvoDevo Group, both located at the Department of Computer Science, Leipzig University.

There are two options for accommodation:
One option is the low-cost Hotel Jef where the seminar will take place. There are rooms for two to four people, which means you will have to share a room with others.
However, you can indicate in the registration form with whom you would like to share a room and we will do our best to make it work for everyone. Another plus is that there is a breakfast buffet.

The other option is the more extensive Chalupy, which is primarily for professors. The decor is more contemporary and the hotel is divided into family apartments for four people. Each bedroom is designed for two guests. The Chalupy is also just a three minutes walk from the Hotel Jef.

- Please note that there are no shopping facilities in Doubice directly, but you can enjoy a meal at nearby restaurants for a great price.
- Also there is no ATM on site. Additionally, payment with any card is not possible! You can pay in Euro, however at a unfavourable rate, or in Czech korunas. Please, make sure that you have enough money for any extra meals, drinks, etc. you might want to buy.
By Czech law, we are required to check your valid passport/ID upon arrival.
A driver's license is not sufficient.
Please make sure to have your documents with you at check-in.
Additionally, German law requires you to carry your valid passport/ID with you when entering / leaving Germany.
- The area is beautiful and perfect for hiking, so don't forget to pack proper shoes. We will also organize a hiking tour on one day with our very own 'Wanderführer' and we'll let you know where to meet upon your arrival. Please ensure you bring comfy hiking cloths, a water bottle, and any personal items you may need for the day. Looking forward to a great adventure together!
- Join us for a session of PowerPoint Karaoke! Watch as participants tackle completely random slides, creating presentations on the fly. Expect bizarre charts, odd images, and plenty of surprises. It’s a fun, light-hearted event where quick thinking and humor are key. Whether you’re presenting or just enjoying the chaos, come for the laughs and stay for the scientific jargon!
- NEW BBWC (Bioinformatics Basketball World Championships):
Didn’t you always wanted to dunk? In Doubice it’s possible, the hoop is at a height of only 2.50m! Each game is 5 minutes long or the first team to score 10 points wins. If it's a tie, we'll have a free-throw shootout. Bring your trainers, some sports cloths and find your balling buddy. Remark: Only smooth games, no hard competition. - NEW Game Night:
We're excited to announce a game night this year! It's a perfect opportunity to connect, build and also (occasionally) destroy friendships. Feel free to bring along any games you'd like to play, such as board games, card games, or party games (or Monopoly, if you really want to see the world burn). Join us for an evening of entertainment and friendly competition! - We'll do our best to accommodate families seperately from the party people and the lecture hall, depending on the number of children and the size of the families. We will contact you after the end of registration to let you know the final prices for the kids and the details of your accommodation.

The conference fee includes accommodation at Hotel Jef.
After successful registration, you will receive an email with all the details, including payment information. Please ensure you transfer the fee within the registration period.
If you need to cancel for any reason, email us as soon as possible. Please note that we cannot reimburse registration fees for cancellations after 01.09.
If you pay your conference fee within 7 days of registration, you'll automatically be entered into a raffle to win one of our exclusive Herbstseminar cups. A must-have for any Herbstseminar enthusiast like you!
The registration / check-in will be in the dining room of Hotel Jef on Oct 07, 2024 from 2pm to 6pm. If you are arriving prior to registration, please do not check in with the hotel, but wait for the organizing team. We will hand you over the key and registration information. Please note that late-night registration will not be supported after 10 pm even for those running late.
All participants have the opportunity to present their scientific work. All diploma, master and PhD students are encouraged give a talk. This is not only a burden but also a good chance to present and discuss your scientific results to Peter, Ivo, Rolf and all the others of the Bompfünewerer consortium at the same time. We will have four kinds of talks:
- Introductory talk: 5 minutes
- Regular talk: 15 minutes
- Extended talk: 25 minutes
- Late night show: 45 minutes

A meaningful (preliminary) title should be given in the registration process in order to schedule talk sessions.
As usual, we provide a video projector (with VGA & HDMI port) and a laser pointer for the presentations. If you cannot provide your talk as a PDF on USB stick, please bring all necessary equipment with you.

TikZ (acronym for "TikZ ist kein Zeichenprogramm") is a tool to create graphic elements in LaTeX. Not only graphs can be created, but all kinds of figures you might think of.
Any LaTeX user (not only graph enthusiasts) that is interested in creating nice figures for their papers, posters, presentations is invited to join this workshop. The first part of the workshop will introduce the basics of TikZ. Note that no previous knowledge of the TikZ package is required. The second part of the workshop introduces some advanced techniques that allow to draw more complex figures.
