During the internship the domain structure of SR proteins was investigated by searching in available online databases and references in papers (see bibliography). The scope was to provide a frequency analysis of each domain of these proteins and to compare homologs of them in species for which data was available.
The comparison shows that some proteins may be falsely annotated (p54 and SRp86 in human and rattus norvegicus) or may be evolved seperately from each other (Tra2 in Oryzias latipes, RY1). Whether one of this presumptions is correct or not is out of scope for this internship but may be worth further research. Another result is the fact that based on the data SRm300 is evolving at a very high rate.
The original paper[8] stated that SR proteins can only be found in metazoa, which was proven true based on analyzing the domain configuration and the occurrence of the domains in all taxons.
